The death of a loved one is a painful event. It involves not only emotions, but also a lot of paperwork. To help citizens in their efforts, notaries today launched a new website containing a large number of practical information and advice.

Overview of the steps to be taken in the event of death

StartMySuccession.be  notaire.be.
StartMySuccession.be has a different approach from notaire.be , the reference website for French-speaking notaries. Notaire.be offers a wide range of legal information to mark the citizen’s path in many situations (succession, marriage, real estate purchase...). Legal information is constantly updated in a complex and changing field.

StartMySuccession is a site that wants to be more practical, with concrete information adapted to citizens who, facing a painful moment, no longer see the tree that hides the forest administratively", says Anne Wuilquot, President of the Federation of Notaries.

The site contains, among other things, an overview of what to do when a loved one dies: what is absolutely necessary to organize during the first days, weeks and months, which documents should be collected and whom to contact? The website also explains in clear terms how to refuse an inheritance, unblock bank accounts or make a declaration of succession.

Une partie proactive

The website also aims to guide citizens who are thinking about what will happen when they die. If he prepares well, his future heirs will be able to avoid many troubles. That’s why StartMySuccession offers an overview of what the citizen can do at the notary. There are many solutions, ranging from wills to the agreement of succession. In addition, the citizen can download a practical brochure to fill out, entitled And after me? Instructions to my relatives.

It is a kind of pocket notebook in which the citizen can store all kinds of information and wishes during his life, says Jan Sap, CEO of Fednot. Whether it is his or her personal property or personal belongings. For his family, it will be a valuable help to ensure the proper execution of his instructions and last wishes."

 Izimi
The brochure is available in a PDF version that can be stored on Izimi, the free notaries' safe. Thanks to Izimi, the brochure can be shared with the citizen’s relatives. At the time of death, family members can easily find his instructions. But also insurance contracts, for example.

Fednot has already implemented various applications for the citizen to allow him to have access to various tools digitally. In addition to Izimi, there are public sales online or over the counter that are made on Biddit or eStox , the electronic and secure register of companies' shares. Citizens and entrepreneurs can use our digital tools. At the same time, notarial studies are of course ready to guide and advise them face-to-face. In sensitive matters such as succession, personal and human service is essential."
