Marriage to a Mauritian, when you are a foreigner in Mauritius, is like getting a permanent ticket to paradise!
We will enlighten you on the steps to follow to obtain your Residence Permit :
To obtain a residence permit as the spouse of a Mauritian citizen, you must submit your application in person at the Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis, accompanied by your spouse.
Required documents:
- The application form duly completed and signed
- Your full birth certificate, legalized or authenticated (with Apostille if applicable).
- Your valid passport
- The national identity card and birth certificate of your spouse (who must be a Mauritian citizen)
- A civil or religious marriage certificate
- Recent passport-sized photos
- Criminal record extract from the country of residence (less than six months old)
- Letter of support from the Mauritian spouse
- Documentary evidence of financial resources (bank statements, pay slips or other financial justifications) birth certificates of dependent children (if applicable)
- Any other document required by the immigration officer.
After approval, the residence permit is issued to the foreign spouse.
The foreign spouse benefiting from this status can:
- Legally reside in Mauritius
- Open a bank account
- Work in Mauritius (The situation regarding the right to work may change according to current regulations. It is recommended to check with the Passport and Immigration Office or the Economic Development Board for the applicable formalities at the time of application)
- Sponsor your dependent children (The couple's children may also benefit from specific administrative procedures depending on their situation and nationality).
Loss or cancellation of the Permit:
The permit may be questioned in certain situations:
- Divorce or widowhood
- Annulment of marriage
- Fraud or false statements
- Threat to public order or national security.
